Petition Page: Youth of America for Health Care Reform
In light of the fact that health care reform affects Americans aged 30 and under more than anyone Bitch Slap Politics has Begun the Youth of America for Health Care Reform petition page. The petition will serve as one way that the youngest segment of the voting population can let their voices be heard. Because if we don’t older generations, including those 65 and older who already have their public, government run health care program – Medicare, will do the deciding for us on the matter.
(please comment on this page if you would like your name to be included on the petition)
Stats You Should Know
46 million – approximate number of Americans under the age of 65 without health insurance (its the health of a lot of people)
18% -percentage of of the population that’s uninsured (its a big chunk of our population – our family, friends, and co-workers)
1.3 million: approximate number of full-time workers that lost their health insurance in 2006 (even if you have it now it doesn’t mean you’ll be able to keep it)
80%: percentage of uninsured people that come from working families (its not people who aren’t willing to go out there and work for it)
7-13 million: the projected number of Americans that will lose their health insurance coverage between 2008 and 2010. (it’s a serious issue that needs to be addressed and quickly)
37: the U.S.’s ranking on the (we DO NOT have the best health care system in the world and Britain and Canada are doing a better job than us)
77.7 years: average life expectancy in the U.S. (not bad but #50 in the world)
81.23 years: average life expectancy in Canada (they’re not killing off their old people)
79.01 years: average life expectancy in the U.K. (they’re aren’t either)
We rallied and petitioned for change in this country and were a driving force behind the reason we saw a step towards change. But it was just that, a step that can easily lead to a stumble backwards. History has shown that for all the great strides we’ve made to help this be a more humane world we Americans can still have short memories sometimes.
We have the chance to raise our country up from #37 on the list of the world’s best health care systems and help to ensure that every American, including the uninsured, are given a decent opportunity to look out for the well being of themselves and their family and they shouldn’t have to go broke for during it.
If you’ve read this far you clearly care about the issue or you really like statistics. Either way comment on the page to add your name to the petition.
